Oliver is a fibers artist and painter living and working in Cleveland, Ohio. Through hand-sewn dolls, embroidered and beaded drawings, designing and fabricating costumes, and paintings on paper, she explores the subconscious world and how humans internalize emotions, hiding them in plain sight. Calling on the language of dreams, she gives a face to what is hidden in the subconscious, honoring its innocence and with an acknowledgement that to do so can leave one painfully vulnerable. Nature-based folk symbolism also reverberates in Oliver’s work, with its abstract shapes and patterns that help express truths of our lived experience through abstract forms.
